PATIKUL, Sulu — A young teacher was shot dead while his companion was wounded after unidentified armed men ambushed their motorcycle in Barangay Tandu Bagua on Thursday night, November 27, 2025.
Authorities identified the fatality as Mohammad Dassir Amak, 24, a registered teacher at Notre Dame of Jolo and also known publicly as a make-up artist. Amak, a resident of Barangay Bus-Bus in Jolo, died instantly after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds when attackers opened fire as he and his companion were passing through the village at around 11:00 p.m.
His companion, Alkhadir Lagaandang Jailani, 26, of Barangay Chinese Pier in Jolo, suffered gunshot injuries and was rushed by residents to a nearby hospital for immediate treatment.
Initial reports from the Patikul Municipal Police Station indicate that Amak was driving the motorcycle with Jailani as his back rider when armed suspects suddenly emerged and shot them at close range. Responding forces, including SOCO personnel, conducted crime-scene processing shortly after the attack.
Authorities have yet to determine the identities and motives of the suspects. Investigators, together with barangay officials of Tandu Bagua, are now pursuing leads to identify those responsible and file appropriate charges.
The incident has stirred concern among residents as police continue to urge the public to report any information that may help solve the case.
