CAMP SIONGCO, Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte — September 6, 2025 — Secretary of National Defense Gilberto C. Teodoro Jr. has ordered the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to ensure the security and integrity of the upcoming Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections (BPE), a historic milestone in the democratic journey of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
The Defense Chief delivered the directive during his visit to the headquarters of the 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division, Philippine Army, where he presided over a Command Conference with the 6ID and Joint Task Force Central (JTFC). He was welcomed by Major General Donald M. Gumiran, Commander of the 6ID and JTFC, along with senior officers and troops of the Kampilan Troopers.
Teodoro stressed the importance of non-partisanship in securing the first-ever BPE, urging the military to remain neutral and ensure elections are conducted free from political interference. He underscored that the true voice of the Bangsamoro people must be heard in a peaceful and credible electoral process.
Major General Gumiran, for his part, assured the Defense Chief of the full commitment of 6ID and JTFC forces to safeguard the people’s right to choose their leaders in a secure and orderly environment.
Aside from election security, Teodoro also highlighted ongoing efforts to revisit and amend the military pension law, a move aimed at uplifting the welfare and morale of soldiers and their families.
Joining him in the engagement were AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo S. Brawner Jr., Philippine Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Antonio G. Nafarrete, Acting Western Mindanao Command chief Brig. Gen. Romulo D. Quemado II, and 1st Infantry Division Commander Maj. Gen. Yegor Rey P. Barroquillo Jr.
The visit not only reinforced directives for election preparedness but also boosted the morale of troops, assuring them of full government support as they continue to play a vital role in safeguarding peace and progress in BARMM.
