ISABELA CITY, Basilan — The Provincial Government of Basilan, in partnership with security forces, successfully mediated the Pagbanta Settlement on Saturday, September 6, resolving a dispute that stemmed from a recent incident in Tabuan Lasa.



The settlement addressed tensions between Mr. Bassal Sawadjaan and former Mayor Muctar “Pusong” Junaid, arising from an altercation that occurred on August 30, 2025, in Barangay Kaumpurnah, Tabuan Lasa.
The mediation was held at the 101st Brigade Conference Hall in Isabela City and was jointly facilitated by BGen. Frederick M. Sales, Commander of the 101st Infantry Brigade, and PCOL Cerrazid A. Umabong, Provincial Director of the Basilan Provincial Police Office.
The event was attended by representatives from the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), and various local leaders. Their presence underscored a strong collective commitment to defusing tensions, ensuring the safety of residents, and restoring peace and order in the community.
Provincial officials lauded the successful settlement, emphasizing that the initiative reflects the unified efforts of government authorities, security agencies, and community leaders to promote reconciliation and strengthen peace-building mechanisms in Basilan.
The Provincial Government said the Pagbanta Settlement serves as a model for constructive dialogue and mediation as a means to address conflicts and prevent escalation, ensuring that communities remain safe and stable.
