PIKIT, North Cotabato — A Muslim religious teacher was gunned down in broad daylight in another shooting incident in Barangay Ladtingan, Pikit, North Cotabato, around noon on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.
The victim was identified as Ustadz Montasir H. Usaman Haron, a resident of Barangay Manaulanan in the town of Tugunan, Special Geographic Area (SGA) of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
According to initial reports, Haron was riding his single motorcycle when he was ambushed and shot multiple times by an unidentified assailant. He died on the spot.
Those who knew Haron described him as a kind and humble individual who devoted himself to studying the Qur’an. Friends and acquaintances expressed shock over the incident, saying he had no known enemies or disputes that might have led to the attack.
The Philippine National Police are currently conducting an investigation to determine the motive behind the killing and identify the perpetrator.
This is the latest in a series of shootings reported in the area, raising concern among local residents and religious leaders.
