DAVAO CITY — In a continued effort to promote public safety and security, the City Government of Davao, through the Public Safety and Security Office (PSSO), convened a multi-sectoral forum on Friday, July 11, at the Grand Men Seng Hotel.

A total of 63 representatives from various sectors—including hospitals, pawnshops, schools, hotels, bus companies, van terminals, security services, and KTV bars—participated in the second leg of the city-led forum series. The event aimed to solicit feedback from stakeholders to further enhance the implementation of safety and security policies across the city.

PSSO Head Angel Sumagaysay emphasized the importance of the forum in building partnerships and gathering input from those directly affected by the city’s safety programs.

“This is a platform to listen to our stakeholders for the development of Davao. In fact, 63 companies sent representatives, and their questions were very important,” Sumagaysay said.

Key presentations during the forum included a rundown of the PSSO’s services and its enforcement of local ordinances, such as the CCTV Ordinance. The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office also discussed tsunami-prone areas, emergency warning systems, and disaster preparedness. Meanwhile, the City Transport and Traffic Management Office briefed attendees on traffic regulations, fines, and penalties.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) provided updates on the illegal drug situation in Davao City, while other security agencies tackled issues related to community safety.

Sumagaysay noted that Davao City is currently ranked the second safest city in the Philippines, according to the World Travel Index—a milestone he credited to the close collaboration with stakeholders and the discipline of Dabawenyos.

“We saw that Dabawenyos are very obedient. That’s why achieving our goal of sustained development and progress for Davao City is not impossible,” he added.

He also revealed plans for another multi-sectoral forum, this time targeting youth participation in safety and security efforts.

The city government continues to promote the “culture of security” to ensure the well-being of all Dabawenyos and maintain the city’s reputation as one of the safest urban centers in the country.
