Davao City, Philippines – July 2025 — Known for its peace and order, lush landscapes, and booming local economy, Davao City now adds another feather to its cap — the fastest fixed broadband speed in the Philippines, according to the latest Speedtest Global Index by Ookla for May 2025.

Davao City clocked a median fixed broadband speed of 94.91 Mbps, surpassing all other cities in the country and placing 86th worldwide. It ranks between Córdoba, Argentina and Kyiv, Ukraine, both of which are known for their advanced digital infrastructure. The recognition highlights Davao’s growing reputation as a digital-ready city ideal for businesses, remote workers, and tech-driven communities.

Only one other Philippine city made it to the global top 100 list: the City of Manila, which came in at 97th with a slightly lower median speed of 88.23 Mbps. While the capital still holds strong, Davao’s edge is evident, especially as internet reliability becomes a key pillar for urban development and digital transformation.

However, the rankings tell a different story when it comes to mobile internet. Here, the roles are reversed. The City of Manila leads with a median mobile speed of 94.74 Mbps, compared to Davao City’s 68.99 Mbps. This suggests that while Davao excels in home and office internet speeds, Manila still holds the advantage in on-the-go connectivity.

Digital experts say the disparity could be due to factors such as terrain, population density, and ongoing infrastructure projects. Davao’s consistent broadband performance can be attributed to both government and private sector investments in digital infrastructure, including fiber-optic expansion and network redundancy systems.

For Dabawenyos, the recognition is both a point of pride and a signal of progress.

“This is more than just a number,” said a local IT business owner. “Fast and stable broadband means more opportunities for outsourcing, digital learning, innovation hubs, and job creation right here in Davao.”

As the digital economy continues to expand, internet performance is becoming a critical benchmark for city competitiveness. Davao’s recent leap in fixed broadband rankings positions it as a rising tech hub — not just in Mindanao, but across Southeast Asia.

The challenge now is to bridge the gap in mobile performance and ensure consistent service across all platforms. If Davao’s fixed broadband success is any indication, the city is well on its way.
