Lamitan City, Basilan – June 16, 2025 — In a rare and alarming incident, a parcel bomb exploded inside a military camp in Barangay Colonia, Lamitan City, wounding a member of the Citizens Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) on Monday night.

The improvised explosive device was reportedly hidden inside a parcel delivered to the headquarters of the Philippine Army’s 18th Infantry Battalion. The unsuspecting CAFGU member who received the parcel sustained injuries when it suddenly detonated upon being handled. His identity has not yet been disclosed as of press time.

This attack marks an unusual and concerning method of assault within a secured military facility—utilizing a parcel bomb to breach security and cause harm. Authorities emphasized that this is the first recorded incident of its kind in the area, raising alarm over evolving threats and tactics.

Following the explosion, military officials immediately heightened security measures within and around the camp. Checkpoints have been reinforced, and all incoming deliveries are now subject to strict inspection.

An investigation is ongoing to determine the perpetrators and the motive behind the delivery of the deadly package. Authorities have yet to confirm whether the attack was an isolated incident or part of a broader threat.

The use of a parcel bomb—commonly associated with targeted attacks in conflict zones—has prompted security analysts and local officials to urge vigilance and review standard operating procedures for handling incoming packages within military installations.
