ZAMBOANGA CITY — A swift police operation led to the arrest of a woman who allegedly attempted to abduct a 5-month-old baby from a boarding house in Barangay San Jose Gusu on the afternoon of May 27, 2025.
According to the Zamboanga City Police Station 11 (ZCPS11), the baby was reported missing around 4:30 PM while sleeping in a hammock inside a boarding house along J. Johnston Street. Alarmed family members immediately began searching for the child and sought assistance from neighbors and the local police.
An e-bike driver provided a crucial lead, reporting that a woman carrying a baby had requested a ride to the Integrated Bus Terminal in Divisoria. When told the trip was too far, the woman reportedly disembarked near J. Johnston Street along the highway.
ZCPS11, with the support of Police Station 5 (ZCPS5), acted quickly on the tip. Their coordination and rapid response led to the suspect’s arrest and the safe recovery of the baby shortly afterward.
The woman is now in police custody and will face charges for violating Republic Act 7610, a law that provides special protection for children against abuse, exploitation, and discrimination.
Police officials expressed gratitude to the community for their vigilance and to ZCPS5 for the prompt assistance. ZCPS11 reaffirmed its commitment to protecting children and ensuring the safety of all residents.
