A total of 26 loose firearms were voluntarily surrendered to authorities in Bacolod Kalawi, Lanao del Sur, marking another significant milestone in the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) intensified campaign to reduce the proliferation of unlicensed weapons and prevent gun-related violence in the province.
The turnover ceremony was held on July 21, 2026, at the Municipal Hall of Bacolod Kalawi, where the surrendered firearms were formally handed over under the Lanao del Sur Police Provincial Office’s flagship initiative, “One Less Firearm, One Less Crime.”
The campaign is being spearheaded by Lanao del Sur Police Provincial Director PCOL Caezar P. Cabuhat, whose office has continued to strengthen collaboration with local government units and communities in encouraging the voluntary surrender of loose firearms.
Joining the ceremony were PCOL Cabuhat, PCPT Khalil M. Balt, Acting Chief of Police of the Bacolod Kalawi Municipal Police Station, Municipal Mayor Abdulmohaimen L. Dipatuan, local government officials, barangay leaders, and community representatives, all of whom expressed their support for the ongoing peace and security initiative.
Authorities said the surrender of the 26 firearms demonstrates the growing trust and cooperation between residents, local leaders, and law enforcement agencies in addressing one of the long-standing security concerns in the province—the widespread presence of loose and unregistered firearms.
Police officials emphasized that every firearm removed from circulation significantly reduces the possibility of its use in crimes, armed conflicts, family feuds, election-related violence, and other security incidents. The campaign aims not only to confiscate or recover illegal weapons but also to foster a culture of voluntary compliance through dialogue, community engagement, and partnership with local stakeholders.
The ceremonial turnover also highlighted the strong support of the Bacolod Kalawi local government, whose collaboration with the PNP has been instrumental in encouraging residents to participate in the initiative.
According to the Lanao del Sur Police Provincial Office, the success of the program reflects a shared commitment among the PNP, the local government unit, barangay officials, and the community to strengthen public safety and preserve peace and order across the province.
Law enforcement authorities continue to encourage individuals still in possession of loose or undocumented firearms to voluntarily surrender them, stressing that community participation remains essential in preventing violence and ensuring a safer environment for all residents.
With another 26 firearms now removed from possible unlawful use, authorities believe the “One Less Firearm, One Less Crime” campaign continues to demonstrate that sustained cooperation between the police, local government, and the public can produce tangible gains in promoting lasting peace and security in Lanao del Sur.
