DAVAO CITY — A police officer assigned to a specialized security unit of the Philippine National Police (PNP) was arrested after allegedly brandishing a firearm and threatening individuals while under the influence of alcohol in a residential area in Davao City, raising renewed concerns over misconduct within the ranks of law enforcement.

The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) confirmed the arrest of a 41-year-old male police personnel assigned to the Regional Personnel Security Unit (RPSU) 11 following a gun-related incident that occurred along Diamond Street in Diho Subdivision, Barangay Cabantian, in the early hours of June 22, 2026.
According to police reports, authorities responded to an emergency call received through Central 911 regarding an armed individual causing alarm in the neighborhood. The suspect was allegedly intoxicated at the time of the incident and reportedly displayed or pointed his firearm in a manner that prompted residents to seek immediate police intervention.
Acting on the report, operatives from Police Station 5 tracked down the suspect and arrested him at approximately 1:45 a.m.
The officer is now facing a criminal complaint for Grave Threat under inquest proceedings, while separate administrative sanctions are also expected to be pursued.
The incident has drawn public attention because the suspect himself is a member of the police force, an institution tasked with enforcing the law and protecting communities from threats and violence.
DCPO City Director PCol. Peter Bauzon Madria emphasized that the police organization will not tolerate any form of misconduct among its personnel, regardless of rank or assignment.
“No member of the Philippine National Police is above the law. We do not tolerate inappropriate behavior from anyone in our organization. Whatever it takes, erring personnel will not be exempted from criminal and administrative liability,” Madria said.
The city police chief stressed that the DCPO strictly implements a zero-tolerance policy against lawlessness and abuses committed by members of the organization, saying accountability must begin within the ranks of the police force itself.
The arrest comes at a time when the PNP continues to face public scrutiny over incidents involving rogue officers and abuses of authority. Cases involving firearms and threats are particularly sensitive, as law enforcement personnel are expected to exercise the highest degree of discipline and responsibility in handling government-issued or licensed weapons.
Residents of the subdivision reportedly expressed concern over the incident, noting that the involvement of an armed and allegedly intoxicated police officer created fear and anxiety within the community.
Authorities have yet to release additional details regarding the circumstances that led to the confrontation and whether any individuals were directly threatened or injured during the incident.
Meanwhile, the DCPO assured the public that the case will be pursued without special treatment and that the officer will be held accountable under both criminal and administrative processes if found liable.
The arrest serves as a stark reminder that law enforcers are not exempt from the laws they are sworn to uphold, and that misconduct involving firearms—particularly when alcohol is involved—will be met with swift legal action regardless of the offender’s position in government service.
