DON CARLOS, Bukidnon — Swift action by operatives of the Police Regional Office 10 (PRO-10) led to the arrest of a suspect accused of sexually abusing a minor in this municipality on April 6, 2026.

The incident came to light at around 12:30 p.m. when a concerned family member accompanied the young victim to the Don Carlos Municipal Police Station to report the alleged abuse. According to authorities, the suspect was identified as the victim’s stepfather.

Acting immediately on the complaint, police launched a hot pursuit operation and proceeded to the residence where the suspect was believed to be staying. Upon sensing the arrival of law enforcement, the suspect attempted to flee by entering the house and climbing over a neighboring wall. However, responding officers quickly cornered and apprehended him, preventing his escape.

Initial investigation revealed that the minor had allegedly been sexually abused on two separate occasions. During the second incident, the victim managed to resist the assault, fight back, and escape. The child later confided in their grandmother, who then informed the victim’s uncle, prompting the family to seek police assistance.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect is now under the custody of the Don Carlos Municipal Police Station. Charges for qualified rape and attempted rape, in relation to Republic Act No. 7610, are currently being prepared for filing in court.

Meanwhile, the minor victim will be placed under the care of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to ensure proper protection, counseling, and psychosocial support.
