Authorities arrested a live-in couple in a buy-bust operation on Maundy Thursday, April 2, in Barangay San Pedro, Pagadian City, as part of intensified anti-drug efforts during the Holy Week observance.

Operatives from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Region IX (PDEA-9), in coordination with the Philippine National Police through the Pagadian City Police Station, carried out the joint operation that led to the arrest of the suspects identified only as “Ryan,” 36, and his partner “Janneth,” both residents of Purok Fishervill in Barangay San Pedro. Janneth was reportedly working as a fish vendor.
Authorities initially reported the confiscation of illegal drugs weighing approximately five grams with an estimated street value of P34,400. However, in a subsequent statement, PDEA уточated that a total of around seven grams of suspected shabu were seized, with an estimated value of P47,600.
Recovered from the suspects were three plastic sachets containing the suspected illegal substance, along with P500 marked buy-bust money and additional boodle money used in the operation.
The suspects are currently in the custody of PDEA-9 and are set to be turned over along with the seized evidence for proper documentation and disposition.
They are expected to face charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, particularly for the sale of and conspiracy to sell dangerous drugs.
In a statement released on Good Friday, PDEA emphasized that the operation forms part of its sustained campaign against illegal drugs, especially during the Lenten season when communities gather for religious observances.
“The operation underscores our commitment to ensuring public safety and maintaining peace and order during Holy Week,” the agency said.
Authorities reiterated their warning to individuals engaged in illegal drug activities, stressing that law enforcement operations will continue without letup, regardless of holidays or special occasions.
