COLUMBIO, Sultan Kudarat — Ten former members of a Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) formally surrendered to government forces in Barangay Maligaya, marking another milestone in ongoing peace and reintegration efforts in the province.

The surrender was facilitated by the 39th Infantry “Smash’em” Battalion under the leadership of Lieutenant Colonel Hector A. Estolas, alongside Charlie Company Commander First Lieutenant Lester S. Depot. The former rebels, who had been living as “lie-low” members, were officially presented during a ceremony to the Municipal Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (MTF-ELCAC) of Columbio.

The event was attended by local government officials and representatives from various agencies, including Columbio Mayor Amirh M. Musali, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region XII officials, and leaders from civil society organizations. Their presence underscored the collaborative approach between the military, local government units, and community stakeholders in advancing peace and development initiatives.

As part of their surrender, the group turned over one homemade caliber .50 single-shot firearm with six rounds of ammunition, and one 9mm pistol with a magazine and ammunition. Authorities said the act demonstrated the surrenderers’ commitment to abandon armed struggle and return to civilian life under the rule of law.

Following the ceremony, the former rebels received immediate assistance under the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) through the MTF-ELCAC. The DSWD and the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) also provided food packs and other support to aid their transition back into society.

In his message, Lt. Col. Estolas commended the group for their decision to lay down their arms, describing it as an act of courage and a step toward a better future.

“This marks a new beginning for them. The government is ready to support their reintegration and help them rebuild their lives,” he said.

Estolas also called on remaining CTG members to follow suit and take advantage of the government’s peace initiatives, emphasizing that sustainable development and security can only be achieved through unity and lawful means.

The 39th Infantry Battalion reaffirmed its commitment to encouraging more insurgents to surrender, highlighting that peacebuilding efforts remain a top priority in the region.
