KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato — A 32-year-old man was shot dead by his own father following a heated confrontation early Saturday morning, March 7, 2026, in Purok Lower Supon, Barangay San Jose, authorities said.
The victim was identified as Junery Arim Sisnorio, 32, a resident of the area. The suspect, his father Jerry Sintin Sisnorio, 53, also lives in the same community.
According to initial reports from the Philippine National Police, the fatal shooting occurred at around 4:30 a.m. after tensions between the father and son escalated into a violent encounter.
A relative of the victim, identified as Jomar Sisnorio, said the trouble began the previous evening when Junery was drinking alcohol with friends and reportedly invited his father to join them. The elder Sisnorio declined, which triggered a verbal argument between the two. Although the situation appeared to calm down later that night, the conflict resurfaced hours later.
Investigators said that early the next morning, Junery allegedly confronted his father again. Witnesses claimed the younger Sisnorio charged at his father while armed with a sickle and stones, challenging him to a fight.
Faced with the alleged threat, Jerry reportedly retrieved an improvised 12-gauge shotgun, locally known as a paltik, and fired at his son.
The victim sustained fatal gunshot wounds in the armpit, back, and shoulder, which caused his immediate death at the scene.
The victim’s mother, Digna Sisnorio, told authorities that the tragic incident stemmed from a personal family dispute that spiraled into violence, with both men reportedly under the influence of alcohol at the time.
Following the shooting, the suspect voluntarily surrendered to authorities, and the firearm used in the incident—an improvised shotgun with a magazine—was recovered at the scene.
The suspect is currently under police custody as investigators prepare the appropriate criminal charges against him.
However, police said the victim’s family is still deliberating whether to formally pursue legal action against the father, whose remorse over the incident was reportedly evident after the shooting.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal confrontation that has left a family and community in shock in Barangay San Jose.
