AMPATUAN, Maguindanao del Sur — A local farmer was killed and a 15-year-old boy injured in a sudden shooting incident in Sitio Pinagayao, Barangay Kauran, Ampatuan, on the night of March 17, 2026.

The victim was identified as Boy Dading, an adult farmer and resident of the area. The injured minor, known only as “Amir,” sustained a gunshot wound to his right arm. Both were reportedly watching a local basketball game, commonly called “three-ball,” when the attack occurred.
According to the initial investigation by the Ampatuan Municipal Police Station, the incident took place around 10:25 p.m. while the victims were seated near the basketball court. Eyewitnesses said two unidentified suspects approached Dading from behind and fired at him, resulting in his immediate death at the scene. Amir was struck by a stray bullet during the attack.
Authorities recovered three shell casings at the crime scene, though the caliber and type of firearm used remain undetermined. Following the shooting, the suspects fled into a nearby wooded area.
Barangay Chairman Hon. Leolin Dolor promptly reported the incident, triggering a joint response by local police and military units. While Dading’s body was taken home by his family, Amir was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Police have launched a thorough follow-up investigation to identify and apprehend the suspects, who remain at large. Dragnet operations and security measures under Oplan Kap-Kap Bakal Sita have been deployed in the area to prevent potential movements of armed groups.
PNP-BARMM spokesperson Capt. Steffi Salanguit urged community members with information regarding the shooting to come forward and assist authorities in bringing those responsible to justice.
This incident underscores ongoing security concerns in Ampatuan, highlighting the vulnerability of residents even during community events. Authorities continue to appeal for vigilance and cooperation from local communities to prevent similar acts of violence.
