AMPATUAN, Maguindanao del Sur — A teacher was shot dead by an unidentified gunman while buying food for iftar at a public market in Barangay Kauran, Ampatuan on Thursday afternoon, authorities and family members confirmed.

The victim was identified as Norodin Kuday, also known as “Mama,” a teacher and resident of Barangay Malibpulok in Rajah Buayan. He was declared dead on the spot after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds.

According to initial information gathered from relatives and witnesses, Kuday arrived at the market at around 5:30 p.m. aboard his black Yamaha Mio motorcycle to buy food for iftar, the evening meal that breaks the daily fast during the observance of Ramadan.

While he was busy purchasing food, an unidentified suspect reportedly approached him and suddenly opened fire at close range. The victim collapsed immediately due to the gunshot wounds and died at the scene before any medical assistance could be provided.

The fatal shooting occurred on the second day of the Ramadan observance, a period considered sacred by the Muslim community, making the incident particularly alarming for residents in the area.

Authorities from the local police are now conducting an investigation to determine the identity of the suspect and the motive behind the killing. Investigators are also reviewing possible witness accounts and other evidence that could lead to the arrest of those responsible.

Family members of Kuday are calling on authorities to swiftly bring the perpetrator to justice, describing the victim as a dedicated educator and a respected member of the community.

Police have yet to release further details as the investigation remains ongoing.
