LAMITAN CITY — A pedicab driver was shot dead in broad daylight on Sunday afternoon, February 22, after an assailant opened fire at Sitio Kayu Poteh along Calle Pote in Barangay Maganda, authorities said.

The victim was identified as Mark Antony Ramos, a resident of Calle Onse, Barangay Maligaya. Initial police reports said Ramos sustained three gunshot wounds in different parts of his body during the attack, which occurred at around 2:00 p.m.

Ramos was immediately rushed to Lamitan District Hospital for emergency treatment, but attending doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Investigators from the local police have launched a full probe into the incident as they work to identify the suspect and determine the motive behind the killing. Authorities said they are currently conducting backtracking operations, reviewing available CCTV footage, and gathering statements from possible witnesses in the area.

According to Lamitan City Police Chief Elmer P. Solon, the police strongly condemned the violent attack and assured the public that efforts are underway to resolve the case.

“We strongly condemn this senseless act of violence. Our investigators are now working to identify the suspect and determine the real motive behind the incident. We urge anyone with information to cooperate with the police so we can bring justice to the victim and his family,” Solon said.

Police said one of the angles being considered in the investigation is a possible link to illegal drugs, though authorities emphasized that this has not yet been confirmed and other potential motives are also being examined.

The Lamitan City Police Station continues to gather evidence and information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrator. Officials said clearer details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting are expected to emerge in the coming hours or days as the investigation progresses.

Authorities also appealed to the public to come forward with any information that may help solve the case and ensure justice for the victim and his family.
