GENERAL SANTOS CITY — Another brazen shooting incident has shaken residents after an SUV driver was ambushed by unidentified riding-in-tandem gunmen along NLSA Road in Barangay San Isidro late Wednesday afternoon.

Police identified the victim as Chris Fermo, 38, a resident of a subdivision in Barangay San Isidro. The incident occurred at around 5:35 p.m. on January 21, 2026, while the victim was driving his sports utility vehicle on his way home.
According to the San Isidro Police Station (Police Station 4), the suspects, riding a motorcycle, suddenly pulled alongside the victim’s vehicle and opened fire without warning. Fermo sustained four gunshot wounds to different parts of his body.
Despite his injuries, the victim managed to keep control of his vehicle and sped into the subdivision where he lives, seeking immediate help from security guards. Barangay responders quickly rushed him to a private hospital in General Santos City, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.
Authorities said the victim was conscious when he was transported by ambulance, but his condition remains under close medical monitoring due to the number of gunshot wounds sustained.
Police have launched a hot pursuit operation against the suspects, who fled the scene after the attack. Investigators are also working to determine the motive behind the shooting and whether it is linked to previous criminal incidents in the area.
“This is another alarming case of gun violence committed in broad daylight,” police said, adding that checkpoints and intensified patrols have been deployed in nearby areas to prevent possible escape routes.
The incident marks yet another shooting case recorded in the city, raising renewed concerns over public safety and the continuing threat posed by riding-in-tandem criminals. Authorities urged the public to remain vigilant and to immediately report any information that could help identify and arrest the suspects.
