MARAMAG, Bukidnon — A 58-year-old motorist was arrested after being found in possession of an unlicensed firearm during a strategic checkpoint operation along the National Highway in Purok 15, Barangay Dologon, Maramag, Bukidnon, on the night of January 17, 2026.

Police identified the suspect as alias Joseph, who was flagged down at around 8:50 p.m. by personnel of the Bukidnon Provincial Mobile Force Company in coordination with the Maramag Municipal Police Station under the Philippine National Police.
According to authorities, the suspect attempted to evade the checkpoint by maneuvering away from the police line but was immediately intercepted by operating personnel. Officers noticed the motorist wearing a sling bag, prompting them to request the presentation of the motorcycle’s official receipt and certificate of registration (OR/CR).
Instead, the suspect voluntarily opened his sling bag, where police discovered a firearm. He failed to present any legal documents authorizing possession or ownership of the weapon, leading to his immediate arrest.
Seized during the operation were a caliber .38 revolver, four live rounds of ammunition, the motorcycle used by the suspect, and other personal items.
The suspect is currently detained at the lock-up cell of the Maramag Municipal Police Station and is set to face charges for violation of Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
Police authorities said the arrest underscores the importance of sustained checkpoint operations to curb the proliferation of loose firearms and ensure public safety, particularly along major highways in Bukidnon.
