SULTAN KUDARAT, Maguindanao del Norte — A motorcycle-riding mechanic narrowly escaped death after being shot by unidentified assailants in a brazen attack along the Parang–Cotabato Road in Sitio Omar, Barangay Crossing Simuay, at around 8:04 p.m. on Friday, January 3.
Police identified the victim as Butchokoy Satar, also known as “Cloud,” an adult resident of the area and a practicing mechanic. According to the Sultan Kudarat Municipal Police Station (SKMPS), the victim was traversing the highway on his motorcycle when two armed men, reportedly riding in tandem, suddenly opened fire on him before fleeing the scene.
Responding officers recovered four spent shell casings at the crime scene, though the type of firearm used has yet to be determined. The victim sustained gunshot wounds and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Authorities said he is currently recovering, but further details on his condition have not been disclosed.
The incident marks the first recorded shooting in the municipality of Sultan Kudarat since the start of the new year, raising concerns over public safety in the area. Police are continuing their investigation to identify the suspects and establish the motive behind the attack.
Authorities have appealed to the public for cooperation, urging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward to help ensure the swift resolution of the case and the arrest of those responsible.
