DAVAO CITY — The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, publicly destroyed hundreds of confiscated illegal mufflers and improvised firecracker devices as part of its intensified campaign against noise pollution, unsafe practices, and violations of traffic and environmental laws.

Using heavy equipment, authorities crushed a total of 296 illegal motorcycle mufflers locally known as “bora-bora” and 270 “lantaka,” an improvised cannon-like firecracker device designed to create loud explosive sounds similar to firecrackers.
The prohibited items were seized during various police operations, checkpoints, and anti-noise campaigns across the city.
According to the DCPO, the use and possession of these items are clear violations of City Ordinance No. 0334-12, the Land Transportation and Traffic Code (Republic Act 4136), and the Clean Air Act of 1999 (Republic Act 8749).
Police authorities stressed that modified mufflers and improvised explosive noise devices not only disturb public peace but also pose serious risks to public safety, as well as contribute to air and noise pollution.
“These items are dangerous and disruptive. The ‘lantaka’ in particular can cause injuries and accidents, while the loud mufflers disturb communities and affect people’s health. We are serious in enforcing the law,” the DCPO said.
The police issued a strong warning to the public that individuals caught using or possessing illegal mufflers and improvised firecracker devices will face confiscation, fines, and possible criminal charges under existing laws and local ordinances.
The DCPO assured the public that intensified operations will continue in the coming weeks to ensure that Davao City remains safe, orderly, and compliant with environmental and traffic regulations.
