BUTUAN CITY — A businessman identified as “Cris Pagni” was shot in a brazen daylight attack on Thursday afternoon, January 23, near Sherwood Subdivision, close to Ambago Elementary School in Butuan City.

Police said the shooting occurred at around 1:00 p.m. along Purok 5-A, Barangay Ambago, alarming residents and passersby in the busy area. Witnesses reported hearing three gunshots before the assailants—described as a riding-in-tandem—fled the scene immediately after the attack.

The victim sustained a gunshot wound on his side, with the bullet passing through his stomach. He was rushed to the nearest hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. His condition has not yet been publicly disclosed.

Initial information indicated that Pagni is the son of an engineer and is engaged in business. Authorities are still working to establish the motive behind the shooting.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) launched a hot pursuit operation shortly after the incident and has begun reviewing CCTV footage from nearby establishments and residences to identify the suspects and reconstruct the events leading up to the attack.

Police are appealing to the public for any information that may help in the swift identification and arrest of the perpetrators, assuring residents that intensified security measures are being implemented in the area as the investigation continues.
