DAVAO DEL NORTE — Authorities have identified an active police officer as the prime suspect in the fatal shooting of an electronic shop owner in Barangay Miranda, Babak District, Island Garden City of Samal (IGACOS), marking a major breakthrough in a case that shocked the local community last December.

In a statement released on Thursday, Police Lieutenant Colonel Hamlet Lerios, chief of the IGACOS Police Station, confirmed that the suspect—an active member of the Philippine National Police—has been formally charged with murder. Police are now awaiting the service of a warrant of arrest against the accused.

The victim, Reymon Allawan, an electronic shop owner known locally as “Kidok,” was gunned down in broad daylight on December 1, 2025, while attending to a customer outside his shop in Zone 5, Sitio Kaimito, Barangay Miranda. Investigators said the assailant appeared suddenly and shot Allawan point-blank in the head before fleeing the scene aboard a motorcycle.

At the time of the incident, witnesses described the gunman as wearing a full-face helmet, a black sweatshirt, and brown jogger pants. He was reportedly slim, about 5’5” tall, and escaped on a blue-and-black XRM motorcycle. The killing occurred at around 11:20 a.m., sparking fear and outrage among residents.

Police initially said the motive was unclear, but further investigation revealed that jealousy was the underlying reason behind the crime, according to PLtCol. Lerios.

Authorities credited sustained investigative work and public cooperation for the swift identification of the suspect. “We extend our gratitude to everyone who assisted in expediting the identification of the suspect so justice can be served for the victim’s family,” Lerios said.

The case remains under close watch as police move to enforce the arrest warrant. Officials assured the public that the PNP is committed to accountability and the rule of law, stressing that no one is above the law regardless of position or affiliation.

The killing took place in Babak District, IGACOS, in Davao del Norte, and continues to serve as a stark reminder of the importance of swift justice and institutional integrity within law enforcement.
