MAIMBUNG, Sulu — December 6, 2025 — In a significant step toward sustaining peace and stability in Sulu, the MNLF Coordinators of Sulu led by Under Commander Kana Kanain, Chairman of the MNLF Coordinator Sulu, held a meaningful dialogue with the 41st Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army’s 11th “Alakdan” Division at Camp Bato Habah in Barangay Matatal, Maimbung.
The discussion focused on strengthening the relationship between the MNLF and the military, particularly in municipalities where MNLF communities and camps are located. Both sides underscored the importance of continuous collaboration to ensure mutual trust, effective communication, and unified efforts in maintaining peace and order across the province.
A major portion of the talks centered on addressing common challenges faced by Tausug communities, especially the recurring issue of rido—family feuds that often escalate into violence and prolonged conflict. Leaders emphasized the urgent need for sustainable solutions and preventive measures to resolve disputes peacefully, noting that the impact of rido goes beyond individual families and affects the broader stability of Sulu.
The MNLF leadership expressed heartfelt gratitude to Lt. Col. Genesis R. Gabrido, INF (GSC) PA, Commanding Officer of the 41st Infantry Battalion, for the warm welcome and constructive engagement. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining strong relations in pursuit of long-term peace and development in the province.
Stakeholders hope that this continued cooperation will foster a more peaceful, united, and progressive Sulu for all its communities.
