TAWI-TAWI — A 52-year-old resident of Brgy. Dungon in Panglima Sugala died on Tuesday night, December 24, after he was believed to have been attacked by a crocodile in the coastal waters of Sitio Parian.

The victim, identified as Robert P. Guilayan, was discovered floating and unconscious at around 8:40 p.m. by local residents. He sustained serious injuries on his right leg, hip, and abdomen. Neighbors immediately rushed to retrieve him and attempted resuscitation, but he did not survive.
According to initial information, Guilayan was on his way home after checking lumber wood he intended to sell when the incident occurred.
This incident is the second crocodile attack reported in Panglima Sugala this month, although the previous case was non-fatal.
Authorities have raised alarm over the increasing danger posed by crocodile encounters in the municipality. Residents are strongly advised to avoid swimming or wading in waterways where crocodiles are known to inhabit or have been sighted, follow warning signs, limit outdoor activities near the water after dark, and remain vigilant especially during high tide.
The public is further encouraged to report crocodile sightings immediately to barangay officials or the concerned government office through official channels to prevent further loss of life.
Local authorities are currently monitoring the area and reiterate the importance of community cooperation in ensuring public safety amid recurring wildlife threats.
