LANGUYAN, Tawi-Tawi — December 16, 2025 — All 78 passengers and crew aboard the motor launch M/L J-Sayang were rescued after the vessel reportedly submerged off the waters of Sitio Tahao, Languyan, Tawi-Tawi on December 15, authorities confirmed.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), through Coast Guard Station Central Tawi-Tawi (CGS CTT) and Coast Guard Sub-Station Languyan, mounted an immediate response after receiving the distress report via Coast Guard Sub-Station Bongao. Verification was swiftly conducted in coordination with local residents, leading to the confirmation that all passengers and crew had been safely pulled from the water by local fishermen (palakaya) and brought ashore at Sitio Tahao Island.
Initial assessments showed that the twelve (12) crew members, including the vessel’s captain, were in good physical condition, with no injuries reported among the rescued. A Search and Rescue (SAR) Team was promptly deployed using M/V Eshan, working alongside the Bongao Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), Marines 212, MBLT-12, and other partner units. The rescued individuals were subsequently transported to Bongao, Tawi-Tawi for further medical assessment and documentation.
The successful rescue highlights the PCG’s unwavering commitment to maritime safety, underscored by rapid response, inter-agency coordination, and the vital role of community support. Authorities continue to remind seafarers and vessel operators to observe safety protocols and ensure seaworthiness to prevent similar incidents in the country’s busy maritime corridors.
