CARMEN, Surigao del Sur — Twenty-one former rebels, once armed in conflict, are now steering their lives toward peace and productivity after successfully completing the 15-day TESDA Driving NC II Training held in Carmen, Surigao del Sur on November 8, 2025.
The milestone marks another victory for the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA)–Surigao del Sur and the 36th Infantry (Valor) Battalion, 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division of the Philippine Army, as part of their continued efforts to support the reintegration of Friends Rescued (FRs) into mainstream society.
From using their hands in conflict to now driving toward a peaceful and progressive future, the participants’ transformation reflects the government’s sustained commitment to peacebuilding and livelihood empowerment. Despite their past struggles, the FRs have proven that real change is possible when peace, hope, and determination prevail.
In his message, Lt. Col. Joselito B. Ante Jr., Battalion Commander of the 36th Infantry Battalion, commended the participants for embracing a new beginning.
“We at the 36th Infantry Battalion will continue to support your journey toward growth and your aspirations in life. Keep driving your dreams forward and remember that your success today is the fruit of your belief in a second chance at life. Congratulations to all, especially our Friends Rescued. Continue on the road to peace and progress,” Lt. Col. Ante said.
The 36IB also extended its gratitude to TESDA Surigao del Sur Provincial Director Allan S. Millan, Mr. Napoleon R. Orillaneda, MBA, AC Manager and LISTI Owner, and their team of dedicated trainers for their unwavering commitment, which made the program a success.
This initiative forms part of the government’s broader peace and development efforts aimed at helping former rebels rebuild their lives through technical and livelihood training. Programs like the TESDA Driving NC II course equip participants with employable skills, empowering them to become productive and law-abiding members of their communities.
Through this partnership between TESDA and the Philippine Army, hope continues to drive forward—one trained former rebel at a time.
