SOCORRO, Surigao del Norte — A 44-year-old fisherman was rushed to the hospital after he was stabbed during a heated confrontation on November 23, 2025, in Purok 2, Barangay Taruc.
The victim, identified as Appleddee Juanite Mondragon, was attacked around 4:00 p.m. by Melvin Albino Alabat, 53, also a resident of the area.
According to PMSg. Jundie Jualo, initial investigation showed that the altercation began when Mondragon allegedly drove his motorcycle at high speed, upsetting the suspect. The victim reportedly stopped to explain that he was rushing due to an emergency.
However, when Mondragon returned home later, Alabat allegedly waited for him and stabbed him once in the right chest using an ice pick.
Mondragon was immediately brought to Socorro District Hospital and later transferred to Surigao Medical Center, where he continues to receive medical attention as of press time.
Following the incident, Alabat voluntarily surrendered to the Socorro Municipal Police Station, where he is now under custody pending further investigation and charges.
