Authorities probe possible sexual assault in heinous crime
BUTUAN CITY — Grief and outrage engulfed Barangay Los Angeles after the lifeless body of a 9-year-old girl, who had gone missing, was discovered early Monday morning in the waters of Purok 5, Barangay Sumilijon.
The child, a resident of Purok 17, Cigla Village, Barangay Los Angeles, was last seen on the evening of November 20, reportedly accompanied by an unidentified adult male heading toward Sitio Lucsuhon during a community gathering. Her disappearance sparked days of frantic search efforts by family, barangay officials, and residents, who scoured thickets and waterways in hopes of finding her alive.
Family’s Desperate Plea
The family had even offered a ₱20,000 reward last Saturday for any information leading to her whereabouts. Tragically, their search ended in heartbreak when the child was found without life.
Indications of Sexual Assault
Initial police investigation revealed disturbing signs that the victim may have been raped before her death. Authorities emphasized, however, that this remains subject to confirmation pending the results of the post-mortem examination.
