MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Tourism (DOT) proudly launched the Muslim-Friendly Travelogue of the Philippines on Tuesday, October 21, at its Central Office, marking another significant milestone in promoting inclusive and culturally respectful tourism in the country.

The three-volume publication—developed in partnership with New Perspective Media Group—highlights the Philippines’ beauty, diversity, and hospitality through the lens of Muslim-friendly travel. The launch reinforces the country’s growing reputation as one of the world’s top emerging Muslim-friendly non-OIC destinations.

“Today marks another step in our continuing work to transform Philippine tourism not only as an engine of growth, but as a catalyst of development driven by purpose, inclusivity, and impact,” said Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco during her message. “The Muslim-Friendly Travelogue of the Philippines embodies this vision. It is a guide and a roadmap for welcoming the world with respect, warmth, and understanding.”

A Journey Through Faith, Culture, and Cuisine

Each of the three volumes invites readers to explore the Philippines from a unique perspective:

  • Volume 1 – Muslim-Friendly Philippines 101: Delves into the deep historical roots of Islam in the country, highlighting its influence on culture and communities.
  • Volume 2 – Muslim-Friendly Travel: Offers curated itineraries, accommodations, and destinations that prioritize comfort, respect, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Volume 3 – Muslim-Friendly Culinary Experiences: Showcases halal and Muslim-friendly Filipino cuisine crafted by renowned Muslim chefs from Mindanao and other regions.

These volumes collectively serve as a practical and inspiring guide for both domestic and international travelers seeking meaningful experiences that honor faith, heritage, and diversity.

Strengthening Halal and Muslim-Friendly Tourism

DOT Undersecretary for Halal Tourism and Muslim Concerns Myra Paz Valderrosa-Abubakar emphasized that the launch is the culmination of years of preparation: “After years of setting the foundation, developing standards, upskilling frontliners, and readying destinations, we now have, in our hands, a guide for our beloved travelers—not just Muslims—to enjoy the Philippines in a way that is most acceptable to our Muslim brothers and sisters.”

Under Secretary Frasco’s leadership, the DOT has achieved several “firsts” in Halal and Muslim-friendly tourism initiatives. These include the issuance of Memorandum Circular 2024-003, which standardizes Muslim-Friendly Accommodation Establishments (MFAEs); the mounting of the SALAAM: Halal Tourism and Trade Expo; partnerships with Megaworld Hotels & Resorts to certify all 13 of its properties as 100% MFAEs; and the establishment of Tourist Rest Areas in destinations such as Sulu and Tawi-Tawi. The department also continues to support destination projects like Marhaba Cove in Boracay.

A Gathering of Global and Local Partners

The launch event was attended by distinguished guests, including Malaysian Ambassador Malik Melvin Castelino, Brunei Ambassador Megawati Manan, Embassy of Saudi Arabia Second Secretary Mohammed Alkhudhayri, and Embassy of Qatar Public Relations Officer Awab Elahmar. From the private sector, New Perspective Media Corporation CEO Karen Remo and COO Vince Ang graced the event.

DOT officials present included Undersecretaries Shahlimar Hofer Tamano, Maria Rica Bueno, and Ferdinand Jumapao; Assistant Secretaries Sharlene Batin and Ina Zara-Loyola; and Director Arlene Alipio.

Promoting a Tourism Industry that Welcomes All

With the unveiling of the Muslim-Friendly Travelogue of the Philippines, the DOT continues to push the boundaries of inclusive tourism—showcasing not only the country’s scenic destinations and rich culture but also its commitment to respect, diversity, and genuine Filipino hospitality.

As Secretary Frasco emphasized, “Through this travelogue, we open our doors wider to the world—inviting everyone to experience the Philippines with a heart that embraces all.”
