ZAMBOANGA CITY — A high-ranking official of the Universidad de Zamboanga (UZ) survived a shooting incident early Wednesday morning, September 17, in Barangay Tetuan.
The victim, identified as Alfredo Eustaquio y Solis, 33, Vice President of UZ, was about to leave for the gym when unidentified assailants opened fire at him around 6:00 a.m. along Estrada Street.
Initial reports said Eustaquio had just boarded his vehicle when the suspects, reportedly riding in tandem, shot him in the back. Despite his injuries, he managed to drive himself to a nearby hospital, where he is now in stable condition and receiving medical treatment.
Police authorities confirmed they received a call about the incident at around 6:45 a.m. and immediately launched an investigation. While the riding-in-tandem angle is being looked into, investigators have yet to establish the exact motive and confirm the identities of the attackers.
The incident has sparked alarm among residents of Barangay Tetuan, as it adds to the growing concerns over safety and criminality in the city.
Authorities assured the public that efforts are underway to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure the safety of the community.
