September 27, 2025 – Malaybalay City, Bukidnon

Authorities in Malaybalay City confirmed the death of a 36-year-old laborer, identified by the alias Vanie, who reportedly took his own life in Sitio Kilap-agan, Barangay Can-ayan, on Saturday morning, September 27.

Investigators said the victim was discovered around 7:45 a.m. inside their residence by a relative, who noticed a foul odor in the area. The family had earlier reported him missing since September 21 at around 1:00 a.m., prompting neighbors and Barangay Peace and Security Officers (BPSO) to help in the search.

Initial findings revealed that the victim had been battling emotional distress and depression after learning about his wife’s alleged infidelity while she was working abroad. Relatives disclosed that he had previously attempted to end his life prior to the incident.

The family has since claimed the victim’s remains. Authorities are continuing their inquiry while extending support to the bereaved relatives.

A Strong Reminder on Mental Health

The tragedy underscores the urgent need for communities to address the growing challenges of mental health, particularly depression, which can be worsened by family and relationship problems.

Mental health professionals emphasize that suicide is preventable and that no one should face struggles alone. Compassion, understanding, and timely intervention from loved ones and the community are crucial in saving lives.
