MALABANG, Lanao del Sur — In a powerful display of reconciliation and unity, two clans in Barangay Matalin have finally ended years of conflict, marking a new chapter of peace in the community.

The Abi and Abang families, once divided by a rido that strained relationships and sowed fear, formally settled their dispute through an amicable agreement. What was once a line of division has now transformed into a bridge of reconciliation, proving that even long-standing disputes can be healed when people choose peace over pride.

The settlement was the fruit of months of dialogue and mediation facilitated by the 1101st Infantry (Gagandilan) Brigade of the Philippine Army’s 11th Infantry Division, in close coordination with the Provincial Government of Lanao del Sur. Local leaders, traditional elders, and respected ulama also played key roles in guiding both clans toward resolution.

Community members described the settlement as a historic moment for Malabang, symbolizing not only the triumph of peace over conflict but also the resilience of the Maranao people in upholding unity despite deep-rooted challenges.

Clan feuds, or rido, have long been a source of instability in parts of Mindanao, often leading to violence, displacement, and disrupted livelihoods. This successful settlement offers a beacon of hope, showing that through dialogue, community solidarity, and faith, reconciliation is always possible.

“This is a reminder that no feud is stronger than our shared faith, no boundary higher than our humanity, and no conflict greater than our collective desire for lasting peace in Lanao del Sur,” one local elder reflected during the ceremony.

As the Abi and Abang families embrace a future free from conflict, their story stands as an inspiration for other communities still divided by rido, underscoring the power of peace when chosen and nurtured by all.
