TIPO-TIPO, Basilan — The Philippine Army demonstrated its enhanced defense capability in safeguarding communities under the UPTAL cluster (Ungkaya Pukan, Tipo-Tipo, Al-Barka, and Mohammad Ajul) during a live-fire exercise on Wednesday in Tipo-Tipo, Basilan.

Troops from the 1st Cavalry Battalion, 45th Infantry (Gallant) Battalion, 6th Special Forces (Lionheart) Battalion, and the 101st Infantry (Three Red Arrows) Brigade showcased their precision firepower through the M125A2 mortar system, firing from a mortar position in Barangay Bangcuang toward a designated target six kilometers away.

The demonstration highlighted the Army’s ability to deliver rapid, accurate, and overwhelming fire support against potential local and international threats, reinforcing its role as a frontline defender of peace and stability in Basilan.

Municipal Mayor Hon. Ingatun P. Istarul of Tipo-Tipo, ABC President Hon. Abdulmubin Dalun, and members of the United States Special Forces witnessed the activity, reflecting broad support for sustained peace and security efforts in the region.

According to military officials, the integration of the M125A2 provides unmatched responsiveness and precision fire support to operating troops, ensuring that communities across UPTAL municipalities remain protected from emerging threats.

The Army said the live-fire exercise also served as a message of reassurance to Basilan residents that government forces remain committed to protecting their communities from violence and instability.
