Ungkaya Pukan, Basilan | August 1, 2025 — In a demonstration of growing defense cooperation, members of the United States Special Forces conducted joint training exercises with the 45th Infantry (Gallant) Battalion under the 11th Infantry (Alakdan) Division of the Philippine Army in Ungkaya Pukan, Basilan.

The advanced training activity, held as part of a broader security cooperation initiative, aims to improve interoperability, enhance operational capabilities, and boost the combat readiness of both Philippine and US troops. The training included sessions on advanced marksmanship, small unit tactics, and jungle warfare operations designed specifically for the challenging terrain and complex security environment of Basilan.

Philippine officers and enlisted personnel of the 45IB extended a warm welcome to their American counterparts, facilitating the smooth conduct of the exercises. The collaboration emphasized the shared commitment of both nations to maintaining regional peace, stability, and effective counterterrorism strategies, particularly within the UPTAL (Ungkaya Pukan, Tipo-Tipo, Al-Barka, and Lamitan) municipalities — areas known for their strategic importance in Mindanao.

The presence of US Special Forces in Basilan highlights the deepening mutual trust and defense ties between the two allies. It also reinforces their ability to act as a unified, rapid-response force against emerging security threats.

“The 45th Infantry Battalion remains steadfast in its mission to safeguard the people of Basilan. Working closely with both local and international partners, we continue to pursue lasting peace and sustainable development in the region,” the unit said in a statement.

The exercise underscores the enduring military partnership between the Philippines and the United States, rooted in a shared vision for regional security and a rules-based international order.
