KIDAPAWAN CITY — A police officer from Makilala, Cotabato was seriously injured after being stabbed in the chest by an unidentified suspect during the early hours of Friday, August 1, 2025, at the Kidapawan City Sports Complex (KCSC) compound in Poblacion, this city.
The victim, identified as PCpl. Mark Pun-an Cadungon, 38, assigned at the Makilala Municipal Police Station, was reportedly off duty when the incident occurred around 12:00 midnight. Based on initial police reports, Cadungon was suddenly attacked and stabbed in the left side of his chest by a man only known by the alias “Jong-Jong,” who immediately fled the scene with two companions.
Luckily, the stab wound did not hit any vital organs, and the victim was quickly rushed to a nearby hospital. He is now in stable condition, according to police.
In a follow-up operation, law enforcement operatives arrested two of the suspect’s alleged companions, both members of the Citizens Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) under the 40th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army. The suspects were identified as:
- Harold Amador Santiago, 26, single, a resident of Quirino Drive, Poblacion, Kidapawan City; and
- Eleomar Daquipel Cane, 24, of Carpenter Street, Poblacion, Kidapawan City.
Both are currently under police custody and undergoing interrogation, while the main suspect, Alias Jong-Jong, remains at large.
Authorities are still investigating the motive behind the attack and are conducting a manhunt operation to apprehend the fleeing suspect.
The Kidapawan City Police Office is urging anyone with information about the suspect’s whereabouts to come forward.
