COTABATO CITY — The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) has welcomed the recent pronouncement of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. affirming his commitment to prioritize the conduct of the first Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections scheduled for October 13, 2025.
In an official statement, MILF Chairman Al Haj Murad Ebrahim said the President’s “clear and unequivocal” assurance should end speculations of another postponement and instead encourage all stakeholders to work towards ensuring a free, fair, and credible election.
“We express our deep gratitude to the President for underscoring the vital importance of this historic parliamentary election to the overall success of the Bangsamoro peace process,” Ebrahim said, adding that the MILF remains duty-bound to fulfill its commitments under the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro.
The MILF noted that after six years of transition, the elections will mark the end of a pivotal chapter in the region’s history and the start of a new era under democratically elected leaders. The group, through its political arm, the United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP), vowed to demonstrate political maturity and readiness to submit to the people’s will “in a clean, fair, peaceful, and credible” electoral process.
Ebrahim stressed the importance of fully informing voters, political parties, sectoral organizations, and district candidates about the new rules and procedures to ensure clarity and integrity in the polls.
“We place our full trust and confidence in the National Government and the Commission on Elections, knowing they are working tirelessly to ensure the resounding success of the first Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections,” the statement said.
The MILF emphasized that the eyes of the nation and the international community will be on the Bangsamoro as it takes another decisive step from “bullets to ballots.”
