KAPALONG, Davao del Norte — Police authorities are pursuing a lone suspect who staged an armed robbery at a gasoline station in Barangay Capungagan, Kapalong on Sunday evening, August 24.
According to the Kapalong Municipal Police Station (MPS), the incident took place at around 6:05 p.m. at the Samurai Gas Station in Purok 3B. Initial investigation revealed that the cashier, identified as Bon Vianca L. Saraga, 28, was on duty when an unidentified man suddenly approached her and allegedly brandished a firearm.
The suspect then forced Saraga to hand over the day’s earnings, amounting to approximately ₱20,000. Fearing for her life, she complied. The suspect quickly fled on a motorcycle toward an unknown direction.
Police investigators led by PSSg Barrientos, with Pat Lopez and Pat Pelisco under the supervision of PMAJ Bryle F. Patalinghug, Acting Chief of Police of Kapalong MPS, immediately responded to the scene following a report relayed by the LGU Kapalong Radio Base.
Authorities noted that the robbery occurred at a time when the gasoline station was relatively quiet and located far from the town center. The absence of security personnel and surveillance equipment such as CCTV cameras likely made it easier for the suspect to carry out the crime.
The Kapalong MPS is conducting a follow-up investigation to identify and arrest the perpetrator. Police also urged local business owners to strengthen their security measures to deter similar incidents, including the installation of CCTV cameras, proper lighting, and if possible, the deployment of security guards, especially during nighttime operations.
PMAJ Patalinghug reminded the public to remain vigilant, avoid complacency, and immediately report suspicious individuals to the authorities. Information that could aid in the arrest of the suspect may be relayed through the Kapalong MPS hotline at 09982403576 or via the emergency hotline 911.
