Parang, Maguindanao del Norte – A high-profile suspect wanted for multiple crimes was killed during a law enforcement operation on the night of July 17, 2025, in Barangay Korosoyan, Barira town.
Authorities identified the suspect as Porok Marandakan Ragundo, alias “Rokkie,” who had standing warrants of arrest for murder, frustrated murder, and robbery. He was reportedly a member of an armed group involved in gun-for-hire activities, robbery-holdup operations, and the illegal drug trade in the region.
The joint operation was conducted by personnel from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group–BARMM (CIDG-BARMM), Barira Municipal Police Station, and the Marine Battalion Landing Team-2 (MBLT-2), following intelligence from a confidential informant. The tip indicated that “Rokkie” was planning to sell firearms in the area.
Law enforcers immediately launched an entrapment operation to intercept the transaction and arrest the suspect. Upon the arrival of Ragundo’s group at the location, operatives initiated the arrest. However, a brief firefight ensued, lasting about five minutes. Ragundo was fatally wounded during the exchange, while his companions fled and remain at large.
Recovered at the scene were high-powered firearms, including an M16 rifle, an M14 rifle, several magazines and ammunition, a hand grenade, and a holster for a Caliber .45 pistol.
Brigadier General Romulo D. Quemado II PN(M), Commander of the 1st Marine Brigade, lauded the joint operation, saying, “This operation demonstrates the unity between the police and the military in the fight against criminality and in safeguarding the Bangsamoro people.”
Meanwhile, Major General Donald M. Gumiran PA, Commander of the 6th Infantry Division, added, “Successful missions like this reflect the strong collaboration between the AFP and PNP. We will continue to intensify law enforcement support to protect our communities from the threats of illegal drugs, loose firearms, and armed groups. I commend our troops for their bravery and swift action.”
Pursuit operations are currently ongoing to locate and arrest Ragundo’s remaining associates. Authorities are urging them to surrender peacefully to avoid further violence.
The operation marks another significant step in the government’s ongoing campaign against crime and illegal activities in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
