BUTUAN CITY – A high-powered firearm and other war materiel belonging to the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) were discovered and recovered by government forces in Barangay Anticala on July 16, 2025, thanks to a tip from a former rebel.
The successful operation was jointly conducted by the 48th Infantry Battalion (48IB), 29th Infantry Battalion (29IB), and other units under the 901st Infantry Brigade. The hidden weapons were found in a remote area in the Caraga Region.
Lieutenant Colonel Kenny Rae C. Tizon, Commanding Officer of the 48IB, emphasized that the continuous surrender and cooperation of former rebels are largely due to the humane and respectful treatment they receive from government troops. He said this is strengthening their trust in the government.
“The cooperation of former CTG members plays a critical role in ending insurgency and achieving lasting peace in the region,” LTC Tizon added.
Authorities view the operation as another step forward in dismantling the remaining CTG structures in Caraga and fostering stability and development in the region.
