CAMP EVANGELISTA, Cagayan de Oro City – July 11, 2025 — Troops under the 401st Infantry Brigade of the Philippine Army’s 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division scored a significant blow against the remnants of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) following the seizure of high-powered firearms and anti-personnel mines during a military operation in Surigao del Sur.

The intelligence-driven operation was conducted on July 10 in Barangay Diatagon, Lianga, Surigao del Sur. It led to the capture of one M60 caliber machine gun, an AK-47 rifle, an AR-18 rifle, 2,500 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, five improvised explosive devices (IEDs), two M18A1 Claymore mines, M57 firing devices, an M4 electric blasting cap, and various other war materiel.

Authorities credited the operation’s success to intensified intelligence work and the critical support of former rebels who provided vital information on the CTG’s whereabouts and capabilities.

Brigadier General Antonio B. Dulnuan Jr., Commander of the 401st Brigade, praised the troops’ swift action and acknowledged the valuable role of former insurgents in supporting the military’s peace and security operations.

“This accomplishment is a testament to the effectiveness of our sustained intelligence efforts and strengthened community partnerships. We salute the former rebels who are now key partners in our shared pursuit of lasting peace,” said BGen Dulnuan Jr.

All recovered materials were immediately secured and transported for proper documentation and disposal in line with military protocols.

The recent seizure brings the total number of captured firearms to 30 and one enemy killed in action within the first ten days of July alone, reflecting the momentum of the 4ID’s ongoing counter-insurgency campaign across its area of responsibility.

Major General Michele B. Anayron Jr., Commander of the 4th Infantry Division, said the successful operation underscores the importance of collaboration between former insurgents and government forces.

“This operation shows our unwavering commitment to ending the local armed conflict and securing peaceful and insurgency-free communities in Caraga and Northern Mindanao,” said MGen Anayron.

He also reaffirmed the military’s resolve to eliminate the remaining threats that continue to disrupt peace and hinder development in the region.
