PAGALUNGAN, MAGUINDANAO DEL SUR — In a show of strong support for peace and public safety, six barangay chairpersons from Pagalungan voluntarily surrendered several high-powered and homemade firearms to the Pagalungan Municipal Police Station on July 23, 2025.

The peaceful turnover, held in the presence of barangay councilors and local police officers, is part of a continuing grassroots initiative aligned with the Philippine National Police’s campaign to curb the spread of unlicensed firearms and explosives.

Among the barangays that took part in the surrender were:

  • Brgy. Kudal: Turned over one homemade sniper Barrett, one homemade 12-gauge shotgun, two homemade caliber .38 pistols, one homemade caliber .45 single-shot pistol, and one homemade 12-gauge single-shot pistol.
  • Brgy. Kilangan: Surrendered one homemade 12-gauge rifle, two homemade 12-gauge pistols, two homemade caliber .38 revolvers, one homemade caliber 5.56 pistol, and one homemade caliber .45 pistol.
  • Brgy. Kalbugan: Yielded two homemade 12-gauge rifles, three homemade caliber .38 revolvers, one homemade caliber .45 single-shot pistol, one homemade 12-gauge pistol, and another homemade caliber .45 pistol.
  • Brgy. Bagoenged: Handed over one homemade M203 grenade launcher, four homemade caliber .38 revolvers, and one homemade caliber 5.56 pistol.
  • Brgy. Inug-Ug: Surrendered one homemade M79 grenade launcher and two homemade caliber .38 revolvers.
  • Brgy. Buliok: Turned in one homemade caliber 7.62 Barrett sniper rifle.

All surrendered firearms are now in the custody of the Pagalungan MPS and will be turned over to the Maguindanao del Sur Police Provincial Office for proper documentation and disposal.

Police Brigadier General Jaysen C. De Guzman, Regional Director of Police Regional Office–Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, lauded the initiative of the barangay leaders and the local police for the successful operation.

“This voluntary surrender of loose firearms speaks volumes of the growing trust and partnership between the police and our local stakeholders in ensuring peace and security in the region,” said PBGEN De Guzman.

Authorities hope this initiative will inspire other communities to follow suit in promoting a safer and more secure Bangsamoro region.
