Bongao, Tawi-Tawi — Runners from across the Philippines are gearing up for The Great South Run 2025, a landmark event set to take place on June 22, 2025 at Masjid Raayat, Bongao, Tawi-Tawi, starting at 6:00 AM. This much-anticipated run aims to unite communities through health, sport, and purpose, with proceeds going towards the construction of a Madrasah (Islamic school) for orphans in the province.
For the first time, Pocari Sweat Philippines will participate in a Tawi-Tawi sports event, offering hydration support to runners and adding national flavor to the southernmost provincial capital’s sporting landscape.
Organized by the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE) – TESD Tawi-Tawi Provincial Office, the event is held in partnership with the Tawi-Tawi Provincial Government, the Philippine College of Occupational Medicine (PCOM) Zamboanga Peninsula Chapter, and Pocari Sweat Philippines.
Participants can choose from two main categories:
- Open Category (3KM, 5KM, 10KM): Perfect for fun runners and beginners.
- Elite Category (10KM): Designed for seasoned runners aiming to finish within an hour.
The event combines fun, fitness, and advocacy. “This is more than just a run—it’s a stride toward education, care, and community building,” the organizers said.
Registration is open until June 8, 2025. Interested participants can register through this Google Form or by scanning the QR code found in the official event materials.
As the province opens its doors to runners of all ages and skill levels, Tawi-Tawi positions itself not only as a destination of natural beauty and cultural heritage but also as a rising hub for meaningful, community-driven events.
