BONGAO, TAWI-TAWI — The Bongao Tourism Office, in partnership with the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao’s Ministry of Trade, Investments, and Tourism (MTIT) and the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA), officially launched the Bongao Sustainable Tourism Development Plan 2024–2030 during a ceremony held at the Bongao Municipal Hall on June 10, 2025.

The event marked a significant milestone in Bongao’s efforts to promote inclusive and sustainable tourism. MinDA Director Joey Recimilla led the handover of the six-year development plan to incoming Bongao Mayor Jasper Que. The ceremony was attended by MTIT Tawi-Tawi Provincial Director Termizie Masahud, local officials, and barangay leaders, reflecting a shared commitment to shaping the municipality’s tourism future.

“This milestone marks a significant step toward sustainable economic growth, ensuring that tourism development in Bongao aligns with environmental conservation, cultural heritage protection, and community well-being,” said Recimilla.

He stressed that the newly launched plan will serve as a strategic framework for the municipality, guiding policies and programs that aim to boost the local economy while preserving Bongao’s rich natural and cultural assets.

Incoming Mayor Que expressed his gratitude to MinDA for its continuous support and pivotal role in the realization of the plan. He emphasized that collaborative governance is crucial in ensuring the plan becomes a foundation for long-term tourism development in Bongao.

The plan outlines initiatives to promote responsible tourism, enhance livelihood opportunities for residents, and strengthen regional partnerships. It reflects MinDA’s broader goal of fostering a more inclusive and resilient Mindanao through sustainable development strategies.

With the adoption of the 2024–2030 tourism roadmap, Bongao is set to take a more proactive role in shaping a tourism industry that not only attracts visitors but also benefits and empowers local communities.
