A 39-year-old Barangay Health Worker (BHW) was arrested following a buy-bust operation targeting the alleged illegal sale of crude oil and gasoline in Barangay Casiklan, Las Nieves, Agusan del Norte, authorities said.

The suspect, identified by police only as alias “Rona,” a resident of the same barangay, was apprehended during the operation conducted by law enforcement authorities last Sunday.

Police said the operation resulted in the seizure of more than 280 liters of petroleum products allegedly being sold by the suspect without the required permits and authorization.

The apprehension underscores the continuing enforcement of regulations governing the sale and distribution of petroleum products, particularly against unauthorized retailing that may pose safety and regulatory concerns.

Following the operation, “Rona” was placed under the custody of the Las Nieves Municipal Police Station (MPS) while authorities prepared the appropriate criminal complaint against her.

Police said the suspect may face charges for an alleged violation of Presidential Decree No. 1865, which amended Batas Pambansa Blg. 33, a law penalizing certain unlawful acts involving petroleum and petroleum products.

Authorities did not immediately disclose further details regarding the exact circumstances of the alleged transactions or the manner in which the petroleum products were being stored and sold.

The seized fuel products were also placed under proper custody as the investigation and documentation of the case continued.

Authorities reminded individuals engaged in the sale or distribution of petroleum products to secure the necessary permits and comply with existing laws and regulations, warning that unauthorized activities may result in criminal prosecution.

The suspect is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
