Camp AKA, Luuk, Sulu — May 13, 2025 — The May 12 National and Local Elections in the area of responsibility (AOR) of the 1102nd Infantry “Ganarul” Brigade concluded without any election-related violent incidents (ERVIs), marking a peaceful and orderly democratic exercise across seven municipalities in the second district of Sulu.

The brigade’s AOR covers the municipalities of Panamao, Panglima Estino, Kalingalan Caluang, Omar, Luuk, Pata, and Banguingui. Despite early concerns over potential security threats, the polls ended smoothly, with voters able to cast their ballots safely.

Three municipalities—Panamao, Panglima Estino, and Kalingalan Caluang—were listed under the Orange category, denoting areas of immediate concern. Three others fell under the Yellow category (areas of concern), and one was considered Green (area of no concern). In response, the 1102nd Brigade activated two specialized task groups to reinforce security efforts.

Task Group “Pata,” led by Col. Wilfredo Borgonia, and Task Group “Banguingui,” under Col. Alex Gagula, were deployed to manage the more sensitive areas. In addition, the 21st Infantry “Invincible” Battalion under Lt. Col. Homer Estolas oversaw operations in Panamao, Panglima Estino, and Kalingalan Caluang, while the 101st Infantry “Sajahitra” Battalion under Lt. Col. Michael Demafelix secured Luuk and Omar.

Brig. Gen. Alaric Avelino Delos Santos, commander of the 1102nd Brigade, highlighted the importance of early coordination and meticulous planning with the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), Philippine National Police (PNP), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and local government units through mission planning sessions and tabletop exercises.

“This success is a product of teamwork, preparation, and unwavering commitment to safeguarding the people’s right to vote freely and safely,” said Brig. Gen. Delos Santos.

He acknowledged the risks in high-alert areas but emphasized the importance of strategic force deployment and inter-agency cooperation. “The activation of dedicated task groups allowed us to respond quickly and effectively to any potential threat,” he noted.

Brig. Gen. Delos Santos also stressed that their mission goes beyond election day: “We will continue to remain vigilant and proactive in maintaining peace and order in our area. We are proud of what we achieved today, and we are even more determined to build on this success in the days ahead.”

The 1102nd Infantry “Ganarul” Brigade reaffirmed its commitment to protecting democratic processes and ensuring public safety across Sulu.
