Lamitan City, Basilan – May 1, 2025 — A tragic shooting incident rocked Barangay Bato in Lamitan City this morning, leaving a senior citizen dead and another man wounded in what authorities describe as a ruthless attack.
The fatality was identified as Ahmon Asmawil Albi, a resident of Barangay Bato. The injured victim, Abdusserrham Puris Abante, suffered gunshot wounds to his leg and arm.
Initial police reports reveal that the two victims were sitting and talking in front of a gas station when an unidentified assailant wearing a face covering suddenly appeared and opened fire without warning. Both men were shot and collapsed at the scene.
Albi was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival due to multiple gunshot wounds. Abante, meanwhile, is currently receiving treatment and recovering in the hospital.
Authorities are conducting an in-depth investigation to determine the motive behind the attack and to identify the gunman. Police are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist in solving the case.
