Camp Lucero, Carmen, Cotabato — May 19, 2025

A significant milestone toward peace and unity was achieved on May 19, 2025, as the long-standing clan feud, or rido, between the Konti and Sabuo families—both residents of Brgy. Macabenban in Carmen, Cotabato—was officially settled in a ceremony held at the village’s covered court.

The event was led by Brigadier General Ricky P. Bunayog, Commander of the 602nd Infantry (LIBERATOR) Brigade of the Philippine Army, together with Major James Carl M. Teaño, Commanding Officer of the 2nd Civil-Military Operations (CMO) Company.

The Philippine National Police also showed full support, represented by Police Lt. Colonel Nestor M. Maderse Jr., Chief of Police of Carmen, and Police Lt. Colonel Rey B. Salgado, Commanding Officer of the 2nd Cotabato Mobile Force Company.

Local government officials, headed by Mayor Rogelio T. Taliño of Carmen, played a crucial role in facilitating the dialogue between the two families. Their joint efforts helped ensure that the process was fair, inclusive, and productive.

In his message, Brigadier General Bunayog emphasized the importance of mutual understanding and reconciliation in achieving lasting peace.

“This agreement is proof that genuine peace begins in our hearts and within our homes. At the 602nd Brigade, we remain committed to pushing forward initiatives that unite our communities so that we may finally achieve the long-desired order in our homeland. The unity demonstrated by the Konti and Sabuo families is a model for others still burdened by conflict. Your sincere act of forgiveness and reconciliation is truly commendable,” he said.

The successful rido settlement reflects a growing commitment among stakeholders to resolve conflicts peacefully and collaboratively, offering hope to other communities still grappling with similar disputes.
