DATU PIANG, MAGUINDANAO DEL SUR — Authorities arrested a suspected illegal firearms dealer during a buy-bust operation in Barangay Magaslong on May 5, 2025, as part of a nationwide campaign against loose firearms in the lead-up to the elections.

The operation was carried out by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Cotabato CFU, with support from CIDG RSOT RFU BAR, PNP Maritime Group – Maguindanao Maritime Police Station, CIT-RIU 15, and the Datu Piang Municipal Police Station. It specifically targeted individuals suspected of selling unlicensed firearms in violation of election-related regulations.

The suspect was apprehended while selling firearms and ammunition to an undercover police officer posing as a buyer. Authorities confirmed that the arrest violated Republic Act No. 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, particularly Article V, Section 32 on the unlawful sale of firearms and ammunition. It also breached COMELEC Resolution No. 11067, which enforces a gun ban during the election period.

Seized during the operation were:

  • One (1) unit of caliber 5.56mm Spike’s Tactical Apopka, FL, USA rifle with an attached scope, serial number SCR-055393;
  • Ninety-nine (99) pieces of P1,000 boodle money; and
  • One (1) genuine P1,000 bill with serial number AL6616354.

A barangay official was present to witness the inventory of confiscated items. The suspect is currently under the custody of CIDG Cotabato CFU, where appropriate charges are being prepared for inquest proceedings.

PBGEN Romeo J. Macapaz, Regional Director of Police Regional Office Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO BAR), commended the successful operation and reaffirmed the police force’s commitment to maintaining peace and order during the election season.

“This is part of our ongoing campaign against loose firearms, which pose a serious threat to public safety and electoral integrity. Under the guidance of our Chief, PNP, PGEN Rommel Francisco D. Marbil, we continue to act decisively to prevent violence and ensure peaceful communities,” PBGEN Macapaz said.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) emphasized its sustained efforts to enforce election-related laws and suppress the spread of illegal firearms, aiming for a secure and orderly electoral process.
