A man was arrested in Barangay Pagagawan, Datu Montawal, Maguindanao del Sur, after authorities discovered more than ten sachets of suspected methamphetamine (shabu), a pistol, and ammunition inside his home.

The suspect, identified as Danny Bansilan Bongkalisan, an adult, married farmer, admitted his involvement in the illegal drug trade in their area. He also disclosed that he had previously served jail time for a similar offense.

Barangay Captain Datu Tongko Mangadad expressed deep concern over the incident, saying they have made every effort to educate residents on the dangers and consequences of illegal drug use and trafficking.

“We’ve never stopped reminding our constituents—through barangay assemblies and local outreach—that drugs will only destroy families and futures,” he said. “But sadly, some people still choose the wrong path.”

The arrest sparked mixed emotions in the community. Some residents were shocked to learn of the suspect’s involvement, while others expressed relief, saying it sends a strong message that illegal activities will not be tolerated.

“We just want peace and safety here,” said one resident who wished to remain anonymous. “We hope this will be the last.”

According to local officials, the operation was successful due to the cooperation between the Pagalungan and Datu Montawal Municipal Police Stations, along with support from other PNP units. Authorities also hinted that community tip-offs played a role in tracking down the suspect.

The incident has renewed calls from residents for more youth engagement programs and greater police presence to prevent similar cases. Local leaders are now working to organize follow-up dialogues with the community, focusing on drug prevention and rehabilitation.

Danny Bongkalisan now faces multiple charges and is currently detained at the Montawal Municipal Police Station.
